Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) is one of the most famous shooting games in video games history. In addition to the success among casual gamers, Valve’s franchise also succeeds in the competition and distributes awards that exceed $ 100,000. The game became a world fever shortly after its release and continues as one of the most popular games on the Steam to date. Check out the following five facts about CS: GO, from its history to the statistics that confirm its success.
Release of CS:GO
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the franchise’s fourth game. It was released on August 21, 2012 and is considered a continuation of Counter-Strike: Source. Although the initial reception of the game was not what the company expected, Valve made some updates that made CS: GO become one of the main alternatives among computer shooting games.
Number of players
Although it was released in 2012, the game maintains a high number of active players even after so many years. On Steam, CS: GO currently has about 350,000 active players and its historical record is 680,000 players. In 2019, CS: GO is the third most played game on the platform, behind only Battle Royale PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and MOBA DotA 2.
From the Half-Life Mod to Success
The name Counter-Strike appeared in June 1999 as a modification of the game Half-Life, released in 1998. The original creators were Canadian Minh Le and American Jess Cliffe, who remained in the development team of the game in Counter-Strike 1.0 and the following versions.
Valve became involved with the modification in 2000 during Counter-Strike Beta 5.0 when it acquired the rights to the name and offered jobs to the original creators and staff who joined them. Thus, the franchise took shape and, especially Counter-Strike 1.6, released in 2003, has become a success until now with CS: GO.
In UK and in the rest of the world, Counter-Strike was very famous in the lan houses in the years 2000.
Most Famous Map
Included as an official map in Counter-Strike 1.1, Dust2 has been on the franchise ever since. Although Cache, Inferno and Overpass are also very famous among players, Dust2 is the most played map in CS: GO. It was created by Dave Johnson, the same as did the first Dust and Cobblestone. One of the main reasons given for its success is that the map is simple and easy to learn for beginners.
